Xherdan Shaqiri was born in Giljan, a city located in eastern Kosovo. His parents are Kosovar Albanian and the family moved to Switzerland in 1992. He, his parents and his three siblings settled in Augst - a small city near the French and German borders. His father did not speak any Swiss German, so he started with several jobs like washing the dishes in a restaurant and doing construction works on the roads. His mother was cleaning offices in the city of Basel. The family earned little money, and would send on top of that as much money as possible back to Kosovo to other family members. That means that the family and little Xherdan did not have much money to spend. He started playing football at a very young age at SV Augst, the club from his hometown. His idol back then was the Brazilian Ronaldo, which he compared to a magician. At the age of 8 he moved to FC Basel, and soon gained the interest of many other international clubs. During a U15 Nike Cup in 2007 he was named as the player of the tournament. The interest got bigger and bigger, but the young and promising player decided to stay with FC Basel. He made his debut for the first team of FC Basel in 2009, in the 2009-10 season opening game versus FC St. Gallen. He played 100 games for the Swiss top club in which he scored over 26 goals. In February 2012 FC Basel announced that the winger would move to the German topclub Bayern Munich. The Rekordmeister paid 12 Million Euro for him and signed him for four years. Shaqiri played well, but the competition was very severe. Bayern had Ribery and Robben on the wings, which were the big stars of the team. After two years he decided to move to Inter Milan, who bought him for 15 Million Euro. By now we can conclude that due to several reasons this was not the best marriage. After only one year he moved to Stoke City, for a 12 Million Pound fee. It was at The Potters were he became the star he is nowadays. He excelled almost every game in the Premier League: in the three seasons in Stoke-on-Trent he finally showed his amazing skill and talent and gained the interest of Liverpool FC.
