Hello and welcome WTFoot fans at the very interesting profile of one of Newcastle United’s biggest stars! He launched his footballing career at Cerro Porteno, a football club based in the neighbourhood of Barrio Obrero in Asunción. He played 2 seasons for the club and made name as one of the most talented players of the league. In 2015 he moved to Lanús, with whom he won the Argentine Primera Division in 2016. His adventure took only one year because one of the biggest clubs of the United States, Atlanta United, signed him for a fee of 8 Million Dollar. He played two seasons in the MLS and both years he was named in the Best XI of the League. In his first year he won the MLS Best Newcomer Award. He helped Atlanta United winning the MLS Cup in 2018 and then his dream came true.. he signed at a club in the Premier League! It was Newcastle United who bought him for a fee of 21 Million Pound, a club record and the highest fee for an MLS player ever. He made his BPL debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-1 draw) in which he replaced Christian Atsu in the 72th minute. In his first couple of games for The Magpies he made a very good impression, but sadly enough he suffered an hamstring injury against Southampton in April 2019 that ruled him out for the rest of the 2018-19 season.
