Bio
Born in Oberhausen, Germany, he began playing football at local club FC Sardegna Oberhausen before being scouted and signed by Rot-Weiß Oberhausen at the age of seven. After two years with the clubs academy he joined MSV Duisburg in 2004 and another fiver years later Schalke 04 in 2009. He progressed through the ranks and was part of the U19 side which won the 2011–12 German U-19 Championship, featuring in a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the final. The brilliant midfielder was awarded UEFA European U-17 Football Championship Golden Player, UEFA European U-17 Football Championship Top Goalscorer, and a place in the UEFA European U-17 Football Championship Team of the Tournament for his incredible performances. On 16 February 2013, the midfielder was handed his debut for the first-team, coming on as a substitute and grabbing a late assist in a 0-0 draw against Mainz 05. His breakthrough with Schalke 04's first-team came in the 2013/14 season, the midfielder scored his first goal for the club on 25 September in a DFB-Pokal match against Darmstadt 98, and ended the season with an impressive 6 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances. Since then he has featured 111 times for the Die Königsblauen in the Bundesliga, scoring 11 goals and registering 12 assists. On 2 August 2018, the German midfield maestro moved to England to sign for Premier League club Crystal Palace on a three-year contract. The Germans first season was tame by the standards he had set, scoring 1 goal and assisting 3 more in 29 league showings for The Eagles.
