Bio
He was born in Sydney and started playing football at Marconi Stallions in 2002. He played 6 years for the club and then moved to the youth academy of Blacktown City. He made his debut in the first team of Blacktown City in 2009, at the age of seventeen, and played 11 games for the club in his first season. In 2010 he moved to Central Coast Mariners – it was at this club that he made his breakthrough. 3 seasons and 80 games later he made the move to Europe and signed a contract at the Belgian club Club Brugge. He made his debut in July 2013 against Sporting Charleroi and kept a clean sheet in his first game (2-0 victory). He stayed for two seasons in Belgium – in November 2014 he even signed a new and improved contract which extended his contract until 2018. In July 2015 it was announced that he signed a six year deal at the Spanish topclub Valencia CF. He was expected to be the first goalkeeper, but then.. he sustained a meniscus tear in one of his first game for the club against Deportivo La Coruna. His replacement Jaume Domenech did an outstanding job in the meanwhile and Ryan would not return in the starting eleven. In January 2017 he couple of international clubs were interested in Mathew and a couple of months later he signed for newly-promoted BPL club Brighton & Hove Albion (in July 2017). He signed a five-year contract at The Seagulls.
