This Icelandic football player was born in the capital Reykjavik and started playing football at the local club Breidablik. When his parents decided to relocate to England he joined the youth academy of Chelsea in 2006. After a very short period he was released from the youth academy of the Blues and then joined Fulham. He was studying at the International School of London at the same time, but failed to adapt to life in London. He decided to move back to Iceland after two years in England and joined his boyhood club Breidablik. He missed Iceland, his friends and especially playing football with his friends. He made his senior debut for Breidablik in the same year he moved back in the 1-1 draw against Iprottabandalag Akraness. He became a regular first team player in the 2008-09 season and played mainly as a left winger and striker. He scored his first goal on 7 July 2008 in the 2-0 win over Fylkir. In 2009 he transferred to the Dutch club AZ at whom he signed a 5 year contract. The first two seasons was playing at the reserves, but he was given a first team chance under the new manager Gertjan Verbeek. After five successful years in Alkmaar he decided to try England again and signed for Championship side Charlton Athletic. He returned to England for the first time after eight years. He signed a new and improved contract in July 2015 as a reward for his amazing performances in the shirt of Charlton Athletic. In July 2016 it was announced that Jóhann would join the newly promoted Premier League club Burnley, at whom he signed a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. He made his BPL debut in the opening match of the season against Swansea City (0-1 loss). He is also a regular player for the national Icelandic team, for which he played over 70 matches!
