Bio
Born in Dakar, Senegal, he started playing football at a young age in his hometown with ASC Yego Dakar around 1996 and was scouted by Belgian club RWDM Brussels a decade later. He went on to make 10 appearances for the the Belgian first-division club between 2007-2008 before moving to Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht ahead of the 2009-10 season due to a pay dispute. The midfielder's tenure with the Paars-wit would be one of great success, 206 appearances in four seasons saw him feature as the first line of defence of an Anderlecht team that would go on to lift the Belgian Pro League trophy in four successive seasons (2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13) and the Belgian Super Cup in 2010, 2012 and 2013. On 18 June 2014, the man from Senegal moved to England to sign for West Ham United on a four-year contract, making his debut in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on 16 August 2014. His first goal came in 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in on 28 December 2014. On 4 August 2016, the Senegalese man scored West Ham's first-ever (and second) goal in their new stadium in a Europa League fixture against NK Domžale. Drawing comparisons to Premier League great Patrick Viera for his style of play, the midfielder cemented his place in The Hammers first-team to make 129 appearances across four Premier League campaigns (2014-2018). On 1 August 2018, he joined fellow Premier League Crystal Palace for a fee of £9.5 million, his debut season saw him make 30 appearances at the base of The Eagles midfield to help the club finish twelfth in the league table.
