Player Bio

His father was a racer and Charlie started racing early winning his first karting championship at the age of seven. Leclerc signed for Ferrari driver's academy in 2016. He won the GP3 championship and shortly thereafter made the move to F2, which he would ultimately win despite the tragic passing of his father. In 2018 he signed for Sauber for his rookie Formula One season and made his debut in the Australian Grand Prix in March. Later that year Ferrari announced the Monégasque driver would be replacing Kimi Räikkönen for the 2019 season. During the Bahrain Grand Prix he qualified in pole position and set a new track record to boot, becoming Ferrari's youngest ever pole-sitter; he finished in third place, disappointing given the circumstances, to secure the first podium of his career. After the summer break, Leclerc would return to claim his first Formula One win in the Belgian Grand Prix, making him the youngest ever Ferrari race winner. He would end the year in fourth place in the driver's standings. A disappointing 2020 saw Charles finish in 8th position but he bounced back in 2021 to finish fifth overall. Leclerc made a blistering start to the 2022 season, wins in the Bahrain and Australian Grand Prix and a finish second place finish in Saudi Arabia sees him sit pretty at the top of the drivers championship.
