Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, on January 26th ,1990, Checo is a ten year veteran in the world of Formula One. He began carting at the age of six, and moved to Germany in 2005 to compete in Formula BMW; in 2007 he was crowned the British Formula Three champion. 2010 saw him compete in GP2 with a runner-up finish to Pastor Maldonado. Sergio made his Formula One debut at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix for Sauber and finished 7th. Soon he'd gain a reputation for demonstrating the best tyre-management skill in racing. In the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix Checo finished second behind Fernando Alonso to secure his first podium finish. Two further podiums followed as Pérez finished P3 in Monaco and P2 in Monza. This convinced McLaren that the Mexican driver was the perfect replacement for the departing Lewis Hamilton for 2013. Things didn't go well as McLaren failed to post any podium finishes with Checo and teammate Jensen Button having more than their share of scuffles along the way. In 2014 Pérez signed with Force India and began to restore his form and fortune with a podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix, however, Checo was left without an alternative when the team announced they'd be looking at alternatives for the 2021 season. Undeterred, Pérez secured a podium finish in Turkey (P2), and bettered the result in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, driving all the way from the back to win the first race of his F1 career against all odds. Checo was repaid in full as Red Bull Racing announced he was to partner Max Verstappen for the 2021 season.
