Lucas Torreira is a professional football player who prefers to play as a defensive midfielder. He was born in Fray Bentos, Uruguay. He started his career at a club in his hometown called 18 de Julio. Soon he joined a slightly bigger club with the nice name Montevideo Wanderers. His talent was visible. That visible that he moved to Pescara in Italy at the age of 17. In Italy he joined Pescara's youth academy. After a short while he made his professional debut on May 16th, 2015. It was a match against Varese for the Serie B. He played only five games for Pescara that year. In the summer of 2015 Sampdoria signed him and transferred 1.5 Million Euro (1.3 Million Pound) to Pescara. Part of the deal was that Torreira would still play for Pescara on loan during the 2015/2016 season, this to gain some first team experience. And he did. He played 29 games that year in which he scored 4 times. When he moved to Sampdoria in the summer of 2016 he became a regular player pretty soon. In total he played 71 games for Sampdoria and even scored the winning goal in Sampdoria's 3-2 win over Juventus. After a summer full of speculation he joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018. They signed him for 30 Million Euro (26.5 Million Pound). Upon the completion of the signing Arsenal's new head coach Emery described him as a "midfielder with great quality".
