Benjamin Mendy was born in Longjumeau (France) on the 17th of July 1994. He plays for the French national team – but he has his roots in Senegal. He can play on several positions in the defense, but prefers to play on the left back position. Benjamin joined the youth academy of Le Havre when he was only 12 years old. In 2010, at the age of 16, he was already starting playing with the reserves of Le Havre. The youngster made a very good impression, and was promoted to the first team only a couple months later. In the upcoming three seasons he played 57 official games for Le Havre. In 2013 he signed for one of the biggest clubs of France: Marseille. The defender made his debut on 11 August of the same year against Guingamp, and scored his first goal on 24 September against Saint-Etienne. The defender continued to play three other seasons for 'Les Olympiens' and left then to AS Monaco, where he signed a five-year during contract at the beginning of the season 2016-2017. Though, his period at AS Monaco only lasted one season. In that season he won the Ligue 1. Manchester City became very interested and paid a world record transfer fee for a defender to get him: 60 Million Euro (52 Million Pound). In his first season in England he subsequently won the Premier League. And the story gets even better. During the summer of 2018 he was part of the French national team that won the World Cup in Russia!
