His first club, the one that he joined the youth-academy of, was Brøndby IF. He played in the youth of that club for 8 years before he made the move to the academy of Chelsea. In 2013 he joined the first of Chelsea, but he was almost immediately loaned out to a German side, Bundesliga Club Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 2017 he came back from that loan and ever since he has been a part of the first team of Chelsea. He does not only play for Chelsea in the Premier League, but he is also playing international football for the Danish national team. Most noticably he was a part of the team that made it to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played alongside Simon Kjaer in central defense and he helped Denmark survive the group stage of the tournament. In the first knockout game they were eliminated by Croatia though, a bitter dissapointment for the Danes.
