Hailing from Lusaka, Zambia, he started his senior career with local club NAPSA Stars before being scouted by Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg. The midfielder was a bit part player in the beginning but with within a couple of years, his impressive engine as a box-to-box dynamic midfielder helped him establish himself as part of the first-team furniture. During the 2019/20 campaign the Zambian footballer made his debut in the UEFA Champions League against English and European giants Liverpool at Anfield. RB Salzburg lost in an exhilarating 4-3 encounter but now the eyes of the world were on him. After 119 appearances for Die Rotten Bullen Mayaya made his way to England to join Brighton and Hove Albion. He made his debut on the opening round of the 2020/21 Premier League season in a 1-2 win over Burnley away to Turf Moor.
